Chicago Fire forward Mike Magee has won the 2013 MLS Most Valuable Player award.

The 29-year old capped off a fantastic individual season by being voted in by peers, media and MLS club officials to become the first-ever Fire player to land the MVP prize.

Magee started the 2013 season with the LA Galaxy, where he had been since arriving from New York Red Bulls in 2009, scoring six goals in 10 outings before he was traded to Chicago.

After returning to his hometown, Magee scored 15 goals in 22 appearances for the Fire but was unable to guide them into the Eastern Conference playoffs as they finished sixth, missing out by virtue of goal difference to Montreal Impact.

Magee, who ended with 21 goals to finish second behind Vancouver Whitecaps star Camilo Sanvezzo on the Golden Boot chart, beat Galaxy skipper Robbie Keane, Impact ace Marco Di Vaio and New York Red Bulls midfielder Tim Cahill to the award, joining a who’s who of MLS’ top players on the MVP list in the process
