Chelsea captain John Terry has backed David Beckham to reach 100 caps for England.

"David has been in great form for England since he has come back," Terry said of the midfielder, who was initially out of favour at the start of Steve McClaren's unsuccessful tenure as national boss.

"It's great to see him training at Arsenal and ticking over."

Thirty-two-year-old Beckham is keeping his fitness levels up with the Gunners during the close season for his Major League Soccer employers Los Angeles Galaxy.

"He is fit and has many years ahead of him," Terry told Sky Sports 1.

"He is a great player and a great lad to have around the place. We hope that not only does he play his hundred, but many more after that."

Terry added he will accept with good grace whatever decision Capello takes regarding the England captaincy - and he concedes it would be a special moment for Beckham, should the new coach put him in charge on the pitch for his 100th match.

"It would be great for David's family for him to have the armband - that would top the night off for him," he said. "But it does not matter who is captain. It is a decision I will fully respect, whatever happens.

"The most important thing is making England great again; if we can get England back to winning ways it will make everyone happy."
