Southend United have accepted a request from Chelsea midfielder Lee Sawyer to have his loan deal terminated.

Sawyer was left out of the squad that lost at Carlisle on Saturday after breaching club discipline by failing to attend a team meeting.

The 20-year-old, who agreed a six-month deal at Roots Hall in July, has now returned to Stamford Bridge.

Sawyer made just one start in his spell at Roots Hall, but appeared 10 times as a substitute.
