Chelsea's Robinho deal thrown into doubt

Real's failure to recruit Valencia's David Villa and Villarreal's Santi Cazorla has slowed down negotiations despite Chelsea chief executive Peter Kenyon's confidence a deal will be completed before the close of the transfer window.

The Spanish club are now prepared to hold the player against his will.

"The coach and the sports director want the player to stay and I am sure he will," said president Ramon Calderon.

"Our squad is complete and it is impossible for us to have one better than the one we have."

Sporting director Predrag Mijatovic added, "Robinho still has two years left on his contract. Therefore he is our player for the next two seasons, so you can draw your own conclusions from that."

Mijatovic was also unconcerned about keeping an unsettled player.

"That can always be put right. In a healthy environment such as the one we have at the club, there is no problem that cannot be sorted."
