Chelsea midfielder Florent Malouda says he apologised to Wigan Athletic captain Mario Melchiot for his ugly challenge during Saturday's defeat.
"I missed the ball, I was late," said the Frenchman.
"I told him sorry and I told the referee that. Mario knows I didn't have any intention to break his leg."
