Chelsea's Lampard: Euro2008 failure big career disappointment

Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard says missing Euro2008 is one of the black marks in his career.

Lampard is desperate to help England reach the 2014 World Cup.

He said: "An England team never wants to miss out on a major tournament and one of the worst - probably THE worst - moment of my career was not qualifying for Euro 2008.

"We know there is work to be done to get to the World Cup and it is up to us to do that."

But Lampard believes young talent like Phil Jones and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain offer England hope for the future.

He said: "Particularly since the last World Cup, we have been crying out for the emergence of exciting youth.

"The manager and I think there are lads that are going to make a name for themselves and, possibly, will be peaking at the perfect time."
