Chelsea's Lampard admits England must improve

Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard admits England need a lot of improvement after Saturday's 5-1 win over Kazakhstan.

He said: "The basics were always three points, and in the first 45 minutes I thought we played relatively well without the finishing touches around the box, although that came in the second half.

"When Shaun Wright-Phillips came on the left we started to play a bit more expansive football and pushed up more and got our rewards.

"We're nowhere near where we want to be yet but we've shown an improvement along the way and people are reacting. Hopefully we can keep improving.

"Belarus is going to be different. Away qualifying games are difficult wherever you go.

"Ideally you want to score early but that kind of away game is tough everywhere. You see that across the board.

"We need the same focus and attitude as we had against Croatia and Kazakhstan and, hopefully, we'll get the result."
