Chelsea yet to speak with Real Madrid target Courtois over new deal

Chelsea have stalled opening new contract talks with Thibaut Courtois.

The London Evening Standard says Chelsea have not spoken to Courtois about a new contract for a year despite interest from Real Madrid.

Rated as one of the best goalkeepers in the world, Courtois has just over two years left to run on his deal. Chelsea are expected to offer the 24-year-old fresh terms but no talks have taken place yet.

He is one of four keepers on Real Madrid's list to replace Keylor Navas as first choice in the summer, along with David de Gea, Hugo Lloris and Benfica's Ederson Moraes.

Chelsea put a £73m price tag on Courtois' head after Real first enquired about him in 2015 but the fact they have yet to open discussions with Courtois will give the Spaniards some encouragement.

It is believed the subject of an extension was raised 12 months ago but both parties agreed to put any discussions on hold for a later date.
