Chelsea have concerns over the lack of action Patrick Bamford has seen on-loan with Crystal Palace.
Nathaniel Chalobah's struggles at Napoli is also worrying Blues management.
The London Evening Standard says Chelsea take a much more proactive stance over the fate of their loanees after seeing former midfielder Josh McEachran's career deteriorate rapidly following a disastrous loan spell at Swansea in 2012 where he made two starts.
The Blues now include an incentive whereby clubs pay less of a loan fee the more appearances one of their players makes, but it has made no difference in Bamford and Chalobah's case.
It is believed both players have break clauses in their contracts and could be recalled in January if things don't improve.
