Chelsea winger Kevin de Bruyne has thanked Werder Bremen fans for their support on the weekend.

De Bruyne expected jeers after comments in the Belgian press about life in Germany.

"I'm glad that there were no whistles. I think the fans have seen that I give all my energy for the team," said De Bruyne.

Even Werder manager Klaus Allofs was relieved. "I've talked briefly before the game with Kevin. He just wanted to play well."
