Chelsea are keeping tabs on Philippe Mexes' row with Roma coach Claudio Ranieri.

Blues boss Carlo Ancelotti is a big fan of Mexes and sees the France defender as a replacement for new Real Madrid signing Ricardo Carvalho.

Last week, Mexes declared: "My contract is due in June 2011. The leadership have already proposed a renewal of four years. I've got to think about, but if I m not playing, I will have to make my own decision."

Upon hearing this, Ranieri snapped: "Players should be committed and not talk this way. They are paid by Roma."
