Chelsea too good in key moments, areas; Hazard beats De Gea in crunch; Falcao snubbed by Man Utd; Zouma took out Fellaini

CHELSEA TOO GOOD IN KEY MOMENTS AND KEY AREASChelsea's players were simply superior to Louis van Gaal's Manchester United troops yesterday. In key moments and in key areas of the pitch, Chelsea's individuals were too strong. Yes, United dominated possession and played the better football. But Thibaut Courtois' first test of the day didn't arrive until after an hour. The one clear chance Chelsea had was taken by Eden Hazard. In contrast, United's best effort came from Radamel Falcao's reaction shot - which was blocked superbly by Gary Cahill. And it was like that all over the pitch. Marouane Fellaini failed to get over the man-marking of Kurt Zouma. Wayne Rooney did his best midfield stuff in the middle third of the pitch, but closer to Courtois' goal, he was crowded out by Nemanja Matic and Zouma. United dominated the game, but barely laid a glove on Chelsea.

FALCAO ISOLATED AT UNITED?Where does Radamel Falcao stand in the Manchester United locker room? His blow-up with John Terry was telling. It occurred just moments after the Colombian's loose lay-off led to Eden Hazard's matchwinner. The pair took swings at eachother after another physical challenge from the Chelsea captain. It really threatened to boil over. But while Cesar Azpilicueta and Nemanja Matic jumped in to defend Terry, not one United player appeared to back up Falcao. Indeed, Wayne Rooney didn't arrive on the scene until after he was called over by ref Mike Dean. United players were clearly upset with Falcao's role in Hazard's goal.

McNAIR AND SHAW DIDN'T LET ANYONE DOWNOn yesterday's form, Paddy McNair and Luke Shaw deserve to keep their place in Louis van Gaal's team. Perhaps Jose Mourinho played into their hands with just Didier Drogba foraging alone upfront, but McNair and Shaw both contributed to an excellent away performance by Manchester United. Ulsterman McNair, originally a midfielder, continually stepped out from the back to take part in United attacks. He also tested Thibaut Courtois with one low, stinging drive. Shaw, meanwhile, looked a better proposition at left-back than the absent Daley Blind, particularly with his pace. Both players combined to carve out Wayne Rooney's early chance. The United captain should've done better. What a different game it would have been if he'd been more clinical.

FALCAO STRONGER FOR FULL 90It was a rare start for Radamel Falcao at Stamford Bridge. He was at fault for Eden Hazard's winner, but grew stronger as the game wore on. Apart from Wayne Rooney's effort in the opening exchanges, Falcao had United's two best chances in the second-half. The first coming from a reaction shot wonderfully blocked by a desperate Gary Cahill. Minutes later he was turning Kurt Zouma before hitting the outside of Thibaut Courtois' post. Louis van Gaal chose to leave the Colombian on for the full 90. Claims his knee problems have slowed the striker appear wide of the mark. Those little five-metre darts were still there. Throughout the game, Falcao was able to get a couple metres away from John Terry and Gary Cahill, but wasn't spotted by United's players in possession. He did struggle to compete at times with Terry's buffeting, which has been the case for much of the season. But was this because he's failed to adjust to Premier League demands, or simply that he is still underdone?

HAZARD WON HIS SHOOTOUT AGAINST DE GEAEden Hazard proved himself this season's Player of the Year yesterday. The Chelsea midfielder's matchwinner came against another of the PFA's nominees, David de Gea. It was a massive moment between the two and it was Hazard, drilling his shot under the Manchester United goalkeeper, who settled the issue. De Gea has been outstanding for United this season. But in that moment, Hazard proved himself the superior candidate.

FELLAINI INEFFECTIVEIt wasn't the worst game from Marouane Fellaini. But unlike his performances against Liverpool and Manchester City, the Belgian was ineffective. With Kurt Zouma shadowing him all over the pitch, the Manchester United man was even taken out as a guaranteed outlet for David de Gea and the defence to aim for. Gone was the comfortable chest control and the certainty of United holding 'second ball' possession. It knocked United off their stride and was a masterstroke from Jose Mourinho. We all knew it was coming. Zouma would be all over the Belgian like a rash. But Fellaini and United didn't have a plan to counter it.

TYPICAL TERRY TO THE LASTAnder Herrera's last minute dive aside, it was fitting that Chelsea captain John Terry had the final significant moment of the game. Substitute Angel di Maria found himself clear and the chance to shoot. His shot was on target and would've tested Courtois. But Terry threw himself at the drive blocking it with the ball barely out the chamber. It was typical of the Blues skipper and epitomised Chelsea's determination yesterday.
