Chelsea is confident that they can secure the services of Southampton defender Virgil Van Dijk.

According to reports from Metro, Chelsea have beat out rivals Arsenal – who offered to make the Dutchman one of their highest paid players – because of their inclusion of 22-year old Dane Andreas Christensen in the deal.

The highly-rated centre half will return to Chelsea after his loan spell with Borussia Monchengladbach finishes at the end of the season, and immediately be flung to Southampton as part of the Van Dijk transfer.

The 25-year old has impressed mightily for the Saints since transferring from Celtic in 2015.
