Chelsea are willing to pay what it takes to win the race for Olympique Lyon star Karim Benzema.

The Mirror says Blues boss Avram Grant is determined to beat Manchester United in the race for the French international striker who scored against Sir Alex Ferguson's men on Wednesday night.

Benzema, 20, is regarded as one of the best prospects in Europe and Lyon reportedly have placed a £42m tag on him.

But Manchester United are on his trail as they look to strengthen their strike-force for next season.

Chelsea fear Didier Drogba is a target for Real Madrid, Barcelona and AC Milan, and have asked Lyon for first refusal on Benzema.
