Fernando Torres cannot see Liverpool competing for silverware anytime soon.
The Sun says Torres has had a transfer request turned down by the Reds in the wake of Chelsea' move for him in the last 48 hours.
A source said: "Although Fernando loves Liverpool, the big love of his life has always been Atletico Madrid.
"He gave up on six years of Champions League football to stay at Atletico.
"He's now gone one year outside European football's top competition for Liverpool and does not want to waste any more time.
"He feels at this stage of his career he needs to push on and be part of a team capable of competing at the highest level."
