Chelsea celebrated their fourth win in the Community Shield, defeating Manchester Utd 4-1 on penalties following a 2-2 scoreline after 90 minutes. Salomon Kalou scored the winning penalty after Wayne Rooney had scored a dramatic last gasp equaliser for the Reds.
Nani had given United an early lead only for a Ricardo Carvalho header to bring Chelsea level just after the break.
However, it was Frank Lampard's strike which gave Chelsea the lead which proved controversial.
Michael Ballack had clearly fouled Patrice Evra who was left on the ground, but referee Chris Foy played advantage as United had possession.
But when the Reds lost the ball Chelsea broke away for Lampard's goal, with United players feeling the game should have been stopped.
Rooney took the game to penalties but Chelsea proved far superior from 12 yards to give boss Carlo Ancelotti a trophy in his first competitive match in charge.
