Chelsea stroll to victory against Blackburn

Chelsea boss Guus Hiddink saw his final match at Stamford Bridge end in a comfortable 2-0 win over Blackburn Rovers. Florent Malouda gave the Blues an early lead and Nicolas Anelka made it two with a header in the second half.

Blackburn played their part in an entertaining encounter but third placed Chelsea always had the edge.

The home side had numerous chances to increase their lead but had to settle for three points and an emotional send off from the fans for the Dutchman.

The Blues' boss waved and bowed to the fans after seeing out his last game in West London - Hiddink has suffered defeat only once in his 20-match spell with the London club.

"It was surprising for me," he told Sky Sports. "In a short period I have experienced so much support from the players and the fans.

"Being at a big club with big players and a big status and knowing you have a good response makes it nice to work here.

"What I experienced and learned here is that many people have a lot of respect for me."

Asked if he had any advice for his successor, Hiddink said: "First of all - to be realistic.

"We have players who are aging but can still perform. You have to watch the squad, and create strength in depth. That is very important."

Blackburn boss Sam Allardyce admitted it was a fair result.

"I thought our first half performance was OK, we created good opportunities," he told Sky Sports.

"I have to say I'm disappointed," he added, when commenting on Malouda's early blow. "It was a great header but I thought we could have done better on the goal.

"Then we suffered what we've been suffering for the back half of the season with two injuries at half time.

"Obviously that made life very difficult for us and we weren't as good in the second half which meant the game panned out as it should have done - a comfortable Chelsea win."

Asked his plans for the summer transfer window, Allardyce said: "We'll probably make changes with the playing staff - I think that's inevitable.

"I think the vast majority of the squad are good enough but we obviously have some natural wastage. Those players will leave and the ones we bring in will have to be better than what we've got.

"It will be difficult with a limited budget but we'll scour the world for the best footballers we can find."

He added: "Securing Premier League status is always our priority but now we must build on that for the fans."
