Chelsea striker Torres proved peacemaker between Ivanovic and Suarez

Chelsea striker Fernando Torres was the peacemaker between Branislav Ivanovic and Liverpool striker Luis Suarez after last Sunday's biting incident. The Sunday Mirror says it was former Liverpool striker Torres who Suarez first approached about the incident after clinching a draw for the Reds against Chelsea.

Suarez did not go into the Chelsea dressing room immediately after the final whistle of last week's game, when Ivanovic was fuming to his team-mates that he had been bitten.

Instead, Liverpool star Suarez waited until the Blues had returned to London to call Torres, explaining his regret and asking to be put in touch with Ivanovic.

Suarez then personally apologised to Ivanovic on the phone after Torres had eased the tension between the pair.

A source said: "A war would have broken out if Suarez had gone straight into the Chelsea dressing room.

" It was probably for the best that he called Torres first."
