Chelsea striker Olivier Giroud hopes his France teammate Adrien Rabiot can "bounce back".
PSG midfielder has angered many inside French football after rejecting a place in the standby list for the country's World Cup squad.
Giroud, ahead of their friendly against the Republic of Ireland, said: "I do not want to express myself, it does not concern me directly.
"I can understand the decision, but we must always think about the consequences of what we say, what we do. We do not think about that.
"It's a shame, because he's a great guy. I hope he can rebound after that."
