Patrick Bamford was having a medical with Middlesbrough on Tuesday evening.
The Chelsea striker is set to join Boro on a permanent deal this week after returning from his loan stint with Burnley, says Sky Sports.
Bamford, 23, failed to force his way into Sean Dyche's first-team and had his season-long spell with the Clarets cut short last weekend.
He will now return to the Riverside Stadium having excelled on loan in the 2014/15 season when he scored 19 goals in 44 appearances.
Aitor Karanka wants Bamford to compete with Alvaro Negredo and Rudy Gestede and to replace Jordan Rhodes, who appears likely to leave Teesside.
