Despite his nomination, Chelsea midfielder Frank Lampard says Manchester United star Cristiano Ronaldo deserves the FIFA World Player of the World.

"It will be very deserved if it goes to him," said Lampard, who was runner-up for the award in 2005 behind Ronaldinho, although he believes his form may be even better than it was then.

"I am playing around my best," said the 30-year-old. "Maybe it's the best I've played. I'm feeling very confident and I'm fortunate to be playing in a team with good players around me who always help me.

"Every season I just try to improve and play well. There are too many top players out there to try and make it your ambition to win an award like that. I never expected to be second and all of a sudden I was in there."
