Chelsea star Lampard angers neighbours over building delays

Chelsea star Frank Lampard is upsetting his neighbours.

The London Evening Standard says Lampard may be the toast of Stamford Bridge after guiding Chelsea to Champions League victory, but he appears to have scored an own goal with neighbours near his £8 million home.

The property in Chelsea is still unfinished seven years after he bought it.

The 33-year-old footballer, who earns £130,000 a week, purchased the white stucco-fronted home in a tree-lined street with ambitious transformation plans in mind.

The six-bedroom townhouse has been undergoing an £800,000 refit complete with an underground swimming pool and a gym - to the irritation of neighbours who fiercely opposed the plans.

A resident who lives a few doors away said: "It's a nightmare. They are all the same, these people. They make more than £100,000 a week and they just take more and more and give nothing back. We just wish he'd move.

"If you buy a period property in a historic part of London like this why do you then have to rip its heart out? London is changing for the worse and the council just keeps on giving planning permission willy-nilly."
