Chelsea captain Ashley Cole is to be offered the England captaincy for the friendly against the Republic of Ireland to mark his 100th cap.

Only seven months ago, Cole branded the FA a 'bunch of t***s'.

Hodgson said: "I don't think he regards himself as a potential (full-time) leader, but it would be a special gesture. I will ask him, I think dialogue with the players is very important. He's receiving his cap at Wembley, it's something for us to think about."
