Chelsea star Cahill over the moon after first foray into England captaincy

Gary Cahill admitted he was delighted with the way things panned out in his first match as England captain.

The Chelsea defender was appointed skipper of his country for last week's Euro2016 qualifier against Estonia due to the injury absence of regular leader Wayne Rooney.

29-year-old Cahill led the team to a 2-0 victory at Wembley and has revealed there was plenty of feeling and emotion after being given the humbling opportunity to don the armband on home soil.

"It was an amazing feeling for me and my family and a moment I'll never ever forget," said the Blues centre-back.

"Once I knew I was captain, I wanted to make it work and to lead them to a positive result, and thankfully it went that way.

"I thought I played well, and the team played well. The most important thing was that we won, so it was a good night."
