Chelsea skipper Terry sees ban just weeks after getting transfer assurances

Chelsea captain John Terry is "shocked" by the club's amazing transfer ban handed down by FIFA.

The Blues cannot sign players until January 2011 after FIFA ruled against them over their signing of former Lens prospect Gael Kakuta.

One of Terry's reasons for staying at Chelsea rather than quitting for Manchester City was he was satisfied by the club's ambitions and that they would be able to compete in the transfer market.

But the ban means the Blues' ageing team cannot be freshened up to maintain the challenge for major trophies.
