Chelsea skipper John Terry feels the players are now getting used to the methods of new manager Andre Villas-Boas.
The 2-1 victory at Sunderland sees Chelsea remain two points adrift of Manchester United and Manchester City in the table following their perfect starts to the campaign.
"It has taken time," said Terry. "We had a good pre-season but we have not played as well as we'd have liked in the first three games, but we showed on Saturday what we are getting to in terms of our targets and the way we want to play.
"We are disappointed we conceded late on but the main thing was starting well and getting three points and we went home very happy."
