Chelsea skipper Terry happy to come away with victory

John Terry was relieved that Chelsea came away with maximum points at Sporting Lisbon on Tuesday night.

The Chelsea created a number of chances but only managed one goal at Estadio Jose Alvalade to edge the Portuguese club 1-0.

In the end, Nemanja Matic's first-half header was the difference between the two sides and it was a result that was warmly welcomed by captain Terry.

"They're a good side but it's been about 10 years since they've been in the Champions League so it was a big night for them," Terry told Sky Sports.

"We had so many chances, it was one of those nights where it just didn't go but thankfully 'Mati' came up with a good header.

"We lost our first game last year and came back to win so that was in our mind, that we had to win."

Jose Mourinho's Chelsea now sit top of Group G with four points from two outings, two ahead of NK Maribor and Schalke and three clear of Sporting.
