Chelsea skipper Terry apologises for snubbing away fans

Chelsea captain John Terry says he was at fault for Everton's goals for the midweek defeat at Goodison Park. Terry also apologised for failing to salute the travelling fans.

He wrote in Chelsea's matchday programme: "We went to Everton and suffered a bad defeat. On a personal note, both Everton goals were my fault. I'm big enough to take responsibility for that.

"Also I know no-one went over to our fans on the far side of the ground so, on behalf of everyone there, I apologise for that.

"From now on we'll make sure players come over to you, whatever the score. Once again we are really sorry."

Terry allowed Everton striker Louis Saha to take advantage of his errors to score twice and give the home side all three points.

The 29-year-old defender also admits that Chelsea's away form needs to improve if they are to win the title for the first time since 2006.

"At home we've been great but if we want to go on and win the league, our form away from Stamford Bridge needs to improve," Terry said.

"Three or four times this year, when Manchester United have had tough games, we've failed to extend our lead at the top.

"There's another tough period coming up for both teams and Arsenal still haven't quite gone away. We are in the lead and we need to, and can, keep it that way."
