Chelsea signing Olivier Giroud admits speaking with France coach Didier Deschamps before leaving Arsenal on deadline day.

Giroud sought Deschamps' advice before making a final decision. Deschamps is a former Chelsea midfielder.

He told Telefoot: "If I called Deschamps to make my choice? Yes. A week before the end of the transfer window, I needed to have his opinion. Quite simply. No, he did not encourage me to join Chelsea, he encouraged me to change clubs.

"You know my attachment to the France team. Whenever I wear this jersey, it's with great pride. I have to give myself every chance to play in the World Cup. It may be the last and I think about it almost daily."
