Chelsea settle on buy British transfer policy

Chelsea are set to shop local for the next couple of transfer windows.

The Daily Mail says after Rafa Benitez confirmed the pending departures of Frank Lampard and Ashley Cole, Chelsea’s network of scouts have been instructed to find British talent.

When Lampard leaves, most probably for LA Galaxy, and Cole signs for Paris Saint-Germain, Chelsea will be short of numbers to fulfil the home-grown quota for Premier League clubs.

Daniel Sturridge, who has made almost as many substitute appearances (47) in a Chelsea shirt as starts (49), will leave if the club can line-up home-grown replacements.

John Terry, who is expected to be back in the squad for the Champions League clash against Danish side Nordsjaelland on Wednesday, is also vulnerable. He has 18 months left on his contract and the old guard have been warned the days of huge deals are over.
