Premier League giants Chelsea are considering a move for Bayern Munich star Javi Martinez, according to reports from Calciomercato.

It is clear to see that Chelsea have to strengthen their squad during the January transfer window in order to make their way up the Premier League table and a host of players have been linked with the Blues over the past few weeks.

Now in fresh rumours, it has been claimed by the Italian news outlet that the reigning Premier League champions are considering making a swoop for Bayern's defensive midfielder Javi Martinez.

It has been suggested that Chelsea are lacking in the centre of the pitch with Cesc Fabregas and Nemanja Matic below par this term and Spain international Martinez appears to be a smart target for Guus Hiddink's side.
