Chelsea are set to splash £55million in January in a bid to strengthen their squad and push for this season's Premier League title.
Blues owner Roman Abramovich has put Atletico Madrid striker Sergio Aguero, rated at £40million, and Monaco's defensive midfielder Jerko Leko, valued at around £15million, at the top if his wish-list for the upcoming transfer window.
But reports have suggested that if asking prices for the duo become too big, Abramovich will seek reinforcements from other clubs as confirmed by a source close to the club.
"Abramovich has drawn up a list of options for the New Year," the source said.
"Atletico are asking silly money. If they don't get real Roman will switch to (Luis) Suarez and try to do a deal with Ajax instead.
"It's not just strikers, though. Jerko is the one they are looking at to come in as a defensive midfielder, although (Roma's Daniel) De Rossi and (Everton's Jack) Rodwell are also on the radar.
"So it should be a busy time because the desire is there, the money is there, the options are there."
