Chelsea senior players dub Villas-Boas Bambi

Some Chelsea players refer to manager Andre Villas-Boas as "Bambi", it has been revealed.

The Daily Mail says he has become the club's eyes and ears, demanding to know about every aspect of the training-ground environment. That ultra-professional approach, a departure from the way Ancelotti approached day-to-day management, has met with the approval of the players.

Chelsea players are also getting used to team meetings, being called into a huddle on the training field before he takes a session. It is far more formal in the team hotel, with players getting used to 45 minutes of opposition analysis after dinner.

There is the occasional dissenting voice, with a couple cruelly nicknaming Villas-Boas 'Bambi' because they believe him to be naïve.

The vast majority have been impressed with his decisive nature, not afraid to make tactical changes when necessary. The decision to substitute Frank Lampard at half-time on Sunday was a big moment, making a change to try to salvage something from the game.

He has the backing of the owner, Roman Abramovich, to make those calls, something that has been transmitted to some of the star names in those team meetings.
