Chelsea send enquiry to Bayern Munich about the availability of Jerome Boateng

Chelsea is interested in bringing Bayern Munich defender Jerome Boateng to London, according to the Daily Mail.

The Blues are searching for a defender to bring in this summer, with Virgil van Dyk from Southampton currently at the top of their list.

However, Antonio Conte is reported to be keeping his options open, and Boateng fits the mold that the Italian is searching for.

The 28-year old has featured sporadically for the Bundesliga giants this season, having made only 13 league appearances under Carlo Ancelotti.

Boateng, who had a short stint in the Premier League with Manchester City in 2010, has expressed frustration at his lack of playing time, but insists he would only leave Bayern for a club with similar prestige.

"I don't have anything else planned. There's only a few clubs in the world with the appeal and tradition of Bayern Munich," said the German international via BILD.

"I didn't play much so it's normal that I'm not entirely happy.

"Now I've just picked up this unfortunate injury against Freiburg. I'll use the off-season to be fit to begin preparations for the new season."
