Chelsea see Schurrle as Sturridge replacement

Chelsea are convinced they can prise Andre Schurrle from Bayer Leverkusen before tomorrow's transfer deadline. The London Evening Standard says the Blues have already made a £16m bid for the German international, which was turned down by Leverkusen.

Chelsea are looking to strengthen their attack and provide back-up to Fernando Torres. Blues forward Daniel Sturridge has been linked with a move to Liverpool, although that may depend on whether the Reds can sell Andy Carroll.

Leverkusen insist Schürrle is not for sale, but Chelsea are hopeful they can sign the striker before Friday's transfer deadline.
