Chelsea's Terry: We wanted to beat Tottenham press by going long to Costa

Chelsea captain John Terry has revealed Jose Mourinho's tactics for Sunday's successful trip to Wembley.

The Blues defeated London rivals Tottenham 2-0 in the Capital One Cup final with Terry netting the opener before Diego Costa fired home the second which was eventually put down as an own-goal from Kyle Walker.

Regarding the way Chelsea played in the first half, Terry told the club's official website that the plan was to thwart Mauricio Pochettino's high press in order to cut out their attack by going long to Costa in the attacking third.

"It was fairly even in the first half but we controlled it a little better in the second half and we are deserved winners," he told chelseafc.com.

"Spurs like to press, certainly in that first phase, so we tried to miss that out and get the ball into the front man a bit sooner which eliminated it a little bit, and I am delighted for Diego, he is in great goalscoring form and it is great to see him do it on the big stage as well."
