Chelsea's Mourinho on Liverpool selection: 'It might be a genius decision'

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho has taken a tongue-in-cheek swipe at Liverpool over Brendan Rodgers' team selection for tonight's meeting with Real Madrid.

The Reds started Steven Gerrard, Raheem Sterling, Jordan Henderson and Mario Balotelli for the Champions League clash at the Santiago Bernabeu as they look ahead to the weekend\s Premier League fixture with Chelsea.

When hearing the news of Rodgers' questionable selection decisions, Mourinho revealed that he would always opt to play his best XI whenever he comes up against quality opposition.

"I don't speak about Liverpool, I speak about myself," he told reporters at a press conference ahead of Wednesday's Champions League clash with Maribor.

"If one day I go to a game and I don't feel I can win, maybe I don't go. So, normally, against the most difficult opponents, I will try to go with my best team.

"But who knows? Liverpool might play a fantastic match and win and rest players and the players are in great condition to play against Chelsea. In this case it might be a genius decision.

"In football it is difficult to comment."

League leaders Chelsea travel to seventh-placed Liverpool on Saturday as they look to extend their four-point lead over the rest of the pack.
