Chelsea's Essien ends self-imposed Ghana ban

Chelsea midfielder Michael Essien says he is ready to again commit himself to the Ghanaian national team.

The 28-year old gave himself a one-year ban from the team as he focused on getting himself back to full fitness after two serious injuries but he now feels that the time is right to pull the Black Stars shirt on again.

"I am fully ready to return to the Black Stars for our next Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Congo in June," he told BBC Sport.

"I still have a lot to offer my country and it never crossed my mind to retire from the national team."

Essien has represented Ghana on 51 occasions and has been one of the top players for the African nation throughout his international career.
