Chelsea striker Didier Drogba says the club must make amends for their poor Premier League form this season. The reigning champions are way off the pace domestically but have progressed to the quarter-finals of Europe's premier club competition, the Uefa Champions League.
Drogba says achieving success in Europe must be at the forefront of the players' minds as he feels the league title has now slipped away and even qualifying for the Champions League next season could become a task.
"To be honest, the chances of winning the title are really small," he told the London Evening Standard.
"Most importantly, we have to focus on third place because the club has to be in the Champions League and it's important to us to play this competition every year.
"There's also a chance we could finish fourth and still not qualify because a team who finishes fifth can take the final place by winning the Champions League.
"I don't like to think about this, although I won't mind finishing fifth if we then win the Champions League and play it again next season."
The Blues moved through to the next phase of the Champions League thanks to a 2-0 aggregate win over FC Copenhagen which culminated in a scoreless draw at Stamford Bridge last night.
The draw for the final eight - which also includes Shakhtar Donetsk, Tottenham, FC Schalke, Inter Milan, Real Madrid, Barcelona and Manchester United - will be made tomorrow.
