Chelsea's Cech rues wasteful performance

Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech admitted the Blues were wasteful in tonight's 1-0 Champions League quarter-final loss to Manchester United.

The home side dominated large sections of the match at Stamford Bridge but were unable to get the ball in the back of the net, unlike Wayne Rooney who needed no invitation to side-foot home in the 24th minute for the eventual winner.

Cech knows that Chelsea missed a lot of opportunities and says that all they can do now is prepare for the return leg at Old Trafford on Tuesday.

"We lost the game and we have left ourselves a mountain to climb but we have to do it," the Czech international told ITV1.

"I think we created chances and that was the key. They had their first chance and scored and we had some but we didn't score, and that's the difference."

Chelsea finished with 21 shots on goal, seven of those being on target, whilst United did the damage with just two on target from a total of eight to record an efficient and workmanlike victory.
