Chelsea manager Andre Villas-Boas has revealed that Frank Lampard's substitution at half-time of Sunday's match was only because of tactics. The Blues found themselves 3-0 down to Manchester United at half-time of their Old Trafford clash so Villas-Boas had to ring some changes and one of those was to replace veteran midfielder Lampard with striker Nicolas Anelka.
Today, Villas-Boas made it clear that Lampard still has plenty to offer to the club and reiterated that the reason for the change was due to the state of the game at the time.
"Those are the decisions that we had to make, bearing in mind the result at half-time," Villas-Boas told Sky Sports News.
"It was an attacking substitution that we thought would be right, not because Lamps was playing bad because he wasn't. He was having quite an impact in the game.
"It was just something we had to do to adapt the team to a more attacking style, not that he doesn't give attacking style because he does and he has proven it throughout his career.
"Nothing dramatic. Frank is a fantastic player and will be one of our key players for the rest of the season."
