The Chelsea Football Club will look to redevelop Stamford Bridge rather than relocate according to reports.
The Blues had been researching the possibility of leaving the venue, which borders Fulham Broadway in west London, to move to one of a number of different sites around the area.
Battersea Power Station, Imperial Wharf, Earl's Court and Battersea Nine Elms were all deemed potential alternatives but Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has now scrapped those plans and will look to turn 'The Bridge' from a 41,000-capacity stadium into a 55,000 seater.
Chelsea chief executive Ron Gourlay confirmed that the current Premier League leaders are looking at ways to expand at their present site despite the fact the ground is neighboured by hotels and private apartments.
"Our stadium is the eighth largest in the Premier League at the moment," he said.
"If you look at some of the activity at other stadiums, you'll definitely see us slipping down that table away from eighth. And I think we're round about 60th in terms of stadiums in Europe."
