Chelsea are chasing Newcastle United striker Andy Carroll.
The Sunday Mirror says Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has given the Italian coach assurances he will fund an overhaul of the team and provide Carlo Ancelotti with significant funds to compete with their rivals in the transfer market.
Carroll, who is widely tipped to become a regular in the English national team, signed a five-year contract to remain at St James' Park just two months ago.
Yet it has not put off Ancelotti, who sees the 21-year-old striker as the long-term replacement for prolific marksman Didier Drogba.
