Chelsea are pushing ahead with a move for Juventus defender Daniele Rugani.
While Juventus are not keen to sell, Chelsea are hoping that a raised offer will tempt the Italian champions.
According to Sportitalia and Il Messaggero, Chelsea's first offer of around €30 million was not accepted.
But both sources are reporting that another offer, with a €35 million fee, will be made by the London club.
Rugani is 24 this summer and wants to move so that he can get a regular first team place. He is often the backup for experienced defenders such as Mehdi Benatia and Giorgio Chiellini.
The link to Rugani is partly due to the fact that Chelsea are reportedly set to appoint Maurizio Sarri as their new manager in the coming weeks. Rugani played for Sarri at Empoli from 2013 to 2015.
