Chelsea are plotting a £25million winter move for Burnley's Michael Keane.
The Daily Mirror is reporting that Blues boss Antonio Conte is determined to strengthen his defence after a less than desirable beginning to the new Premier League season.
Keane, 23, is seen as a long-term replacement for veteran John Terry whose importance to the Chelsea team was highlighted on Saturday when the captain did not play in the 3-0 loss at Arsenal.
Conte has been left unimpressed with Gary Cahill's performance against the Gunners and is eager to bring a quality young central defender to Stamford Bridge to provide further competition for places.
It is understood that the West Londoners are prepared to splash the cash in January and could offer as much as £25m for the former Manchester United youngster.
Leicester City went after Keane in the summer but the Clarets were not interested in the £15m offer from the Foxes.
