Chelsea are ready to make an irresistible offer to Manchester United for Wayne Rooney. The Sunday Telegraph says Chelsea are discussing a 'knockout' £40 million bid to sign Rooney. The offer would be vastly higher than their opening bid of under £25 million, which was flatly rejected by United last week.

Chelsea officials believe that Rooney can be signed this summer.

It is also believed the 27-year-old is not only keen to quit United but move to Stamford Bridge and join up with new manager Jose Mourinho.
