Chelsea are launching a mega bucks January bid for Bayern Munich striker Mario Gomez. The Daily Star says Chelsea will make a £34m bid for Germany and Bayern star Gomez - to replace Fernando Torres in January.

Blues boss André Villas-Boas is hoping to make highly-rated striker Gomez his number one target, if Torres keeps on misfiring.

Gomez, who joined Bayern for £26m in 2009 from rivals Stuttgart, has scored eight goals in fives matches so far this season.
