Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich had a stunning first option offer for Luka Modric rejected by Dinamo Zagreb, it has been revealed.

El Mundo Deportivo says Abramovich offered Dinamo supremo Zravko Mamic £3.5 million not to sell Modric until he was ready to move to Stamford Bridge. Abramovich made the offer when meeting Mamic at his home in London, but the proposal was turned down.

It's also been revealed that both Manchester City and Manchester United made matching bids of £17 million for Modric, but like Abramovich were turned down by Mamic.
