Chelsea No2 Wilkins angers journalists over Wenger row

Chelsea assistant boss Ray Wilkins has risked the wrath of journalists.

The Sunday Mirror says Wilkins has enraged journalists after ringing Arsene Wenger to claim he had been misquoted and hadn't criticised Arsenal for undermining the Carling Cup.

For the record, here's what Wilkins said in response to a question about some clubs not fielding first-teamers: "What we do to a large degree is we undermine the Carling Cup. And we don't... I'm not overly concerned what other clubs do but yes it undermines it slightly, yes."

Asked if Chelsea's two recent wins in the cup to Arsenal's none meant the Blues' philosophy was justified, he replied: "Most certainly. You enter a competition to win it. Why go into it if you're not concerned whether you win it?"
