West Bromwich Albion young gun Chris Wood says that Roberto Di Matteo has been a great influence on his career.
The 19-year old New Zealand striker, currently on loan at Birmingham City, played under the Chelsea assistant when he was at the helm at The Hawthorns between 2009 and early 2001 and admits that he helped him develop a great deal.
“I had a lot to do with Roberto Di Matteo; he had a lot of faith in me,” Wood told tribalfootball.com.
“He played me in tough games at a young age which helped my progression and development.
“He is a quiet manager, doesn’t yell and shout but commands respect because he had such a great footballing career.”
